We are launching a new feature on our blog and in our weekly newsletter.  Think of it as a "get to know you" feature for our beloved community to get to know one another a bit better. We are excited to begin to see and hear the diverse faces and stories that make up this beautiful membership!  The hope is over time we all get a deeper sense of our collective belonging across our diversity!

Starting us off are Mitch and Linda who have been worshipping with us for a couple years.   What follows are their answers to a few questions....

  1. Tell us a bit about your faith journey?  In Krista Tippet’s phrase, "Was there a

spiritual background to your childhood?”

Mitch- My family was very involved in church and that was true of most people in the small town where I lived. Church activities shaped my friendships and social activities.

Linda- When I was young my family attended an evangelical church. My parents divorced and that changed. I always felt a connection to the presence of God.

  1. How do you fill your time?  What brings you joy?

Mitch- Being newly retired, I am trying to be conscientious at shifting from a work mindset to more informal activities.  I join new friends for coffee, take a tai chi class and play golf regularly.  I also enjoy making pens out of local woods.

Linda- I am a reader and ponderer and keep journal-ish writing. Since moving here, I’ve discovered the ocean, walking near the water and paddle boarding.

  1. How did you find yourself at AbbeyChurch?  What continues to draw you to this community?

AbbeyChurch has been a spiritual treasure for us.  Mitch was a pastor for a long time, and it is a gift to attend worship without the expectations of preparing and leading worship regularly.  We are drawn to the inclusive community, the communal liturgy, and spiritual challenge we receive.

  1. Where do you sense God is at work today - in yourself, in our rag-tag community, in the world?

We both sense God at work by making space to listen to other people’s stories, by having intentional contemplative time to be open to different ways of seeing the world and being attentive to the wonder and life around in this place where we live.
