Worship for Sunday February 8 - Transfiguration Sunday

We gather at 4pm at United Commons

Rebecca Yeo will be preaching on the Transfiguration as a story of both ascent and descent.

The band leads us in joyful song.

Lucy is with the youth. June is with the children.

There will be bread and wine.  Michelle Slater presides at Christ's table, open for all to receive ...

Ash Wednesday - 9am and 6pm

Ash Wednesday - 9am and 6pm

Get your Ash in Church!

Can you believe that it's almost Lent?

On Wednesday February 18th  there are two opportunities to receive the imposition of ashes - both happening in the United Commons Chapel - enter off the parking lot.

At 9am we'll host a short, simple spoken service with imposition of Ashes with Rev. Lynn Mills presiding.

Or, you are invited to join Fairfield UC and some of the AbbeyChurch musicians (Jen on piano and Mary on harp) at 6pm in the chapel for a contemplative worship and imposition of ashes -  with chants from the Taize Community.

Please note: we won't be having Mardi Gras / Pancakes this year - but we're working with the North Park Neighbourhood Association and other neighbourhood friends to do a big "Spring Fling" post-Easter celebration as well as an upcoming Contra Dance.  Stay tuned for details!

Lectio Devina on Brokenness with Kintsugi

Lectio Devina on Brokenness with Kintsugi

Friday, February 20, 2026

On Friday February 20 from 4 to 6 pm, you are invited to join a small group of aspiring Abbey artists (in the Abbey office), to contemplate a passage on brokenness, hear about the Japanese practice of Kintsugi and have a chance to repair a ceramic vessel using a modified procedure.  There is room for 10 people.

To reserve a space, please email Margot at mspence@shaw.ca.

You will need to bring a small broken piece of pottery / ceramic to work on (eg mug or bowl sized, though it should be a piece that you will no longer use for food or liquid).  Alternately you can visit a thrift store and buy a piece you don't mind breaking, to practice repairs on.

Next AbbeyYouth: February 28th

Next AbbeyYouth: February 28th

We will meet at abbeychurch with folks from NPNA to brainstorm plans

AbbeyYouth is in a period of reimagination as we look to partner with The Place and North Park Neighbourhood Association on a youth group that is more resourced, more structured, and available to more youth than just our little flock.

We will spend time together brainstorming what that could look like, where it could be, and what kind of activities should be included. We will also be filling easter eggs with candy (and eating some!) for the Easter egg hunt on holy week.

QomQem Sunday outreach is stopping (for now).

QomQem Sunday outreach is stopping (for now).

A note from Sarah Gallard, director at QomQem

Hello,

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for volunteering with QomQem for Sunday Night Outreach. We truly appreciate your dedication and support in helping provide food for our relatives on the street.

As of Sunday, February 8th, we’ve wrapped up our outreach shifts at the church. If and when we secure additional funding, we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
In the meantime, we’ll continue running Sunday Night Outreach from our Peers office at a smaller scale through the end of February.

We’ll also be in touch about a small wrap-up celebration later on. During that time, we would love to gather your comments and observations about doing this work together over the past two years.

We are incredibly grateful for your time, care, and commitment.

Maarsii, Thank you,

Sarah Gallard

About Us

About Us

The Emmaus Community is a neo-monastic intentional community of ordinary people who commit ourselves to following Jesus in ways akin to the monastic life.

The AbbeyChurch is a Sunday worship expression of the Emmaus Community.

Not all AbbeyChurch folks are part of Emmaus - you're welcome to be a part of AbbeyChurch regardless of connection to Emmaus!

As a witness to unity and diversity, we are an ecumenical shared ministry of The United Church of Canada and The Anglican Church of Canada. We intentionally draw on the 'jewels' of these traditions, as well as the wider church.

The Emmaus Community and the AbbeyChurch acknowledge that we worship, take action and pray on the stolen territory of the Songhees and Xwsepsum (Esquimalt) Nations, the Lək̓ʷəŋən  peoples'.

How to Donate

We're grateful for your contributions to our common life as both Emmaus and the AbbeyChurch.

We are  our own registered CRA charity and have our own bank account!

We  accept e-transfers to treasurer@emmauscommunity.ca for charitable donations.  If you'd like a charitable receipt, please email your contact information to that same address or fill out this form so we can send you a receipt at tax time.

In addition to the many ways to participate, there are a number of ways you can give finanically - including PAR (monthly withdrawl), CanadaHelps (one-time giving) and by cash or debit (via Square) on Sundays at AbbeyChurch.

You can read more about the options and a bit about our finances here.

Province pulls funding for Goldstream highway widening

Thanks to all those who wrote letters, spread the word, circulated info cards and showed up at Goldstream. We were fortunate to have Elder Carl Olsen speak at Abbey and are grateful for all the work he and his supporters did in the last three years to stop this highway expansion project. See the link below for details.
