Season of Creation 2026THIS WEEK: bring a small jar of water!
The Season of Creation is a time to renew our relationship with our Creator and all creation through celebration, conversion, and commitment together. It is an ecumenical movement of prayer and action on behalf of our beloved Creation and in response to the love of our Creator. Guided by an ecumenical steering group, it draws in an impressive array of diverse Christians who share a concern for the health of Creation. We note that the Season of Creation is not a liturgical season (like Advent or Easter) but rather a time of intentional prayer and reflection which the Church has committed to from September 1, the Feast of Creation, until October 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. We begin our Season of Creation on Sunday Sept 6 by gathering outdoors at Willows Beach for an annual picnic and time of contemplation. Our worship continues throughout September to reflect our shared love and concern for Creation in song, story, and sacrament. Join us! For more infomation visit:

Belonging, Believing, Becoming6-week journey of learning cohosted by Rev. Michelle, UCC - Sunday, October 11, 2026 A Six-Week Introduction to Jesus, The United Church of Canada and Your Local Community of FaithWhat does it mean to follow Jesus? What makes The United Church of Canada distinctive? And is there room in the church for your questions, experiences and evolving beliefs? Belonging, Believing, Becoming is a welcoming six-week journey for people who are new to the United Church, returning after time away, arriving from another tradition or exploring faith for the first time. It is also a meaningful refresher for those who have been part of the church for years and would like to understand it more deeply. The journey begins with Jesus—his stories, teachings, relationships, death and resurrection—and asks why people continue to follow his way. You do not need to arrive with settled beliefs or the “right” answers. This is a place to learn, wonder, speak honestly and listen to the experiences of others. Each gathering centres on a story of Jesus and a simple symbol—an open table, a loaf of bread, a Bible and lamp, water, a candle, a towel and basin, or a woven cord. Together, these symbols connect the Christian story with United Church faith and the realities of everyday life. Over six weeks, we will explore welcome and belonging, different ways of believing, Scripture, worship, justice, service and life in a community of faith. A New Creed will accompany us throughout the journey, gradually unfolding its vision of a God who is with us and a church called to love, serve and seek justice. Come as you are—with your faith, your doubts, your curiosity and your story. Belonging can begin before believing is settled, and becoming is the journey we share. To register, email Michelle: mslater@united-church.ca Co-led by Rev. Michelle, in partnership between AbbeyChurch and All Souls Fairfild United. About Us
The Emmaus Community is a neo-monastic intentional community of ordinary people who commit ourselves to following Jesus in ways akin to the monastic life. The AbbeyChurch is a Sunday worship expression of the Emmaus Community. Not all AbbeyChurch folks are part of Emmaus - you're welcome to be a part of AbbeyChurch regardless of connection to Emmaus! As a witness to unity and diversity, we are an ecumenical shared ministry of The United Church of Canada and The Anglican Church of Canada. We intentionally draw on the 'jewels' of these traditions, as well as the wider church. The Emmaus Community and the AbbeyChurch acknowledge that we worship, take action and pray on the stolen territory of the Songhees and Xwsepsum (Esquimalt) Nations, the Lək̓ʷəŋən peoples'. |
How to Donate
We're grateful for your contributions to our common life as both Emmaus and the AbbeyChurch. We are our own registered CRA charity and have our own bank account! We accept e-transfers to treasurer@emmauscommunity.ca for charitable donations. If you'd like a charitable receipt, please email your contact information to that same address or fill out this form so we can send you a receipt at tax time. In addition to the many ways to participate, there are a number of ways you can give finanically - including PAR (monthly withdrawl), CanadaHelps (one-time giving) and by cash or debit (via Square) on Sundays at AbbeyChurch.
