Pride 2026 - an invocation

Pride 2026 - an invocation

The AbbeyChurch seeks to be Public, Intentional, and Explicit in our full affirmation and love of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.  Conscious of the harm the Church has caused on so many precious lives, we seek a more faithful witness of Christ loving commitment to each and every one!

We received this beautiful invocation from friends at the Kirkridge Retreat Centre in PA.  Written by their formation director lacey hunter, it was offered as part of pride celebrations in Slate Belt, PA, USA.   Check it out below or to hear it read click here.

Today is a sacred day,

as we gather at Slate Belt Pride

Come Queer One, Gay One, Unnamed One

Come Fluid One, Changing One, Ever-expanding One

Today we are possible because of one another

Because there is a love that we

cannot be separated from

Because you, God, see and taste and know

and call us, “My Delight.”

Come Lover, Beloved and Be Love

Today is a holy day,

as we gather at Slate Belt Pride

come Compassionate God, Courageous God, Tender God,

Today, surround us in your heart.

Make this a place where community thrives.

Where joy overflows.

Where all who enter feel your grace.

Come Lover, Beloved and Be Love

Today is a holy day,

as we gather at Slate Belt Pride

Come God of skin and bone, God of breath and stone, God of here and now,

Today is a day made for pride.

Where silence has been demanded, let your people shout for joy.

Where love has been shamed, let your people know their goodness.

Where hatred has spread, let your people come together in power.

Come Lover, Beloved and Be Love

Today is a glorious day.

Come Dreamer, Liberator and Healer

Come Rainbow-Maker, Riot-Shaker, and Pride-filled Waker

Today the table is wide

And the people are ready

Ready for our love to be music,

Our names to flow down like waters

Our bodies to be free

Our communities to know justice, know peace

Come One Who Formed Us, Whose Form is Us and Who Transforms Us

Come Lover, Beloved and Be Love

Amen.

Weekday Morning Prayer : *Summer schedule*

Weekday Morning Prayer : *Summer schedule*

All are welcome!

NOTE: We are meeting less often during the summer months, and all are warmly welcome to join us!

+ Mondays at 9am - Morning Prayer with Centering Prayer @ The Upper Room (aka AbbeyChurch office - off the Balmoral parking lot, metal stairs up) - in-person only.  There is not usually AM prayer on holiday Mondays.

+ Fridays at 8:15am - Morning Prayer - online on zoom only.

Our weekday common prayer is liturgical in nature and based on ancient monastic practices.

It's open to all who wish to join in-person or online.

We sometimes chant the psalms, listen to a reading or readings assigned for the day, have a short period of silence, sharing and intercessory prayer.

The liturgies and psalter for weekday prayer are posted here.

Please do email for a zoom link if you are joining online.

About Us

About Us

The Emmaus Community is a neo-monastic intentional community of ordinary people who commit ourselves to following Jesus in ways akin to the monastic life.

The AbbeyChurch is a Sunday worship expression of the Emmaus Community.

Not all AbbeyChurch folks are part of Emmaus - you're welcome to be a part of AbbeyChurch regardless of connection to Emmaus!

As a witness to unity and diversity, we are an ecumenical shared ministry of The United Church of Canada and The Anglican Church of Canada. We intentionally draw on the 'jewels' of these traditions, as well as the wider church.

The Emmaus Community and the AbbeyChurch acknowledge that we worship, take action and pray on the stolen territory of the Songhees and Xwsepsum (Esquimalt) Nations, the Lək̓ʷəŋən  peoples'.

How to Donate

We're grateful for your contributions to our common life as both Emmaus and the AbbeyChurch.

We are  our own registered CRA charity and have our own bank account!

We  accept e-transfers to treasurer@emmauscommunity.ca for charitable donations.  If you'd like a charitable receipt, please email your contact information to that same address or fill out this form so we can send you a receipt at tax time.

In addition to the many ways to participate, there are a number of ways you can give finanically - including PAR (monthly withdrawl), CanadaHelps (one-time giving) and by cash or debit (via Square) on Sundays at AbbeyChurch.

You can read more about the options and a bit about our finances here.
